Beginner Jewelry Making Instructions on How to Make Teardrop Pearl Earrings
Step 1. Begin by choosing the jewelry making components listed above or your mix of beads. If you add the bead caps, make sure they are a snug fit around the teardrop pearl.
Step 2. Cut 2 x pieces of wire 1.5” (3.81cm) and 2 x 6” (15.4cm) pieces.
Step 3. Take 1 x 1.5” piece of wire and turn a simple loop on one end.
If you are new to making loops then stop and have a look at how easy they are to make.
Step 4. Place a small white pearl then a bronze pearl on the wire.
Step 5. Make a loop above the bronze pearl, before closing add your ear wire to the loop.
A simple way to make the loop is place a 8mm bead on top of the pearl and cut the wire directly above the bead. Remove this bead, using your chain nosed pliers bend the wire to a 90 degree angle above the pearl.
Using your round nosed pliers take the end of the wire and roll into the centre, before closing add your ear wire to the loop.
Step 6. Place the teardrop pearl and bead cap onto the eye pin. Leave a little distance between the bead cap and form a loop.
Step 7. Take 1 x 6” piece of wire and turn a simple loop on one end.
Step 8. Place you pearls in the following sequence on the wire:3 x bronze pearls,1 x large white pearl, 3 x bronze pearls,1 x large white, 3 x bronze pearls,1 x large white, 3 bronze pearls.
Step 9. Make a loop above the bronze pearl …BUT make this loop a little larger, and at this point leave it open.
Step 10. Attach the loop at the end of the 2 pearls, then bring the wire around to form a circle and with your chain nosed pliers grip the loop and turn it slightly to the side so it will attach to the loop at the end of this wire
Finally add the teardrop pearl to the open loop.
Now close the loop and use your side cutters to cut off the excess wire that does not form part of the loop. Place your fingers over the excess while cutting to prevent it from flying away.
To be safe always wear eye protection to prevent any damage to your eyes.
Then use needle nosed pliers to tuck it in firmly so the end is flush and check to make sure there are no sharp edges to catch clothing or scratch your skin.
Sometimes you will need to use your flat or chain nose pliers to make the loop even.
Step 11. Make a second earring to match.
Listed below are a couple of earrings where crystals have being substituted for the larger pearls.
